Free e-books on trains from RCS Libri

RCS Libri, Italy's second biggest publishing group, is to launch a service which will give passengers on Italian trains free access e-books in order to study the way consumers read and discover digital content.

The project, in association with Italian train company NTV, was announced by Marcello Vena, RCS Libri's director of digital products, at Monday's FutureBook conference (3rd December).

The project, E-books Aboard!, launches in early 2013 and will allow the 340,000 daily commuters access to content during their journeys both on their own devices over wi-fi and with e-readers installed on the trains.

The aim, Vena said, was to enable publishers to achieve "discoverability 2.0, where we can learn about readers' habits and can have direct engagement, rather than just broadcasting to them".
