Fred Newman dies
12.11.08 | Katie Allen
The death has been announced of Fred Newman, chairman and founder of Publishing News. Newman passed away just after midnight on Tuesday evening (11th November) after a long battle with cancer.
Newman co-founded trade weekly Publishing News with Clive Labovitch in 1979, and it ran for nearly 30 years before its closure last July.
His son Mark Newman and son-in-law Dela Quist will now oversee the remaining businesses within the Publishing News Group —including the British Book Awards and BML—which operate under m.d. Jo Henry. A private burial is to be held for Newman, followed by an open service of commemoration.
