Franklin Watts has bought UK rights in Lucy Cooke’s New York Times bestselling title The Little Book of Sloth, which will be published in the UK as The Power of Sloth. The deal was brokered by Rachel Cooke, publishing director for Franklin Watts, and Charlie Campbell at Ed Victor.
Rachel Cooke commented: “Franklin Watts are absolutely delighted to be working with Lucy Cooke and to be able to reveal The Power of Sloth to the UK. Lucy's videos and TV shows about sloths have reached millions of viewers around the world – what better way to next celebrate these gorgeous, quirky, cuddly creatures but in a book?”
The Power of Sloth is a celebration of the sloth and includes many pictures of baby sloths accompanied by a simple story that provides the reader with information about sloths and why we need to protect them.
Lucy Cooke studied Zoology at Oxford before moving to TV. Her first online video, Meet the Sloths, attracted over one million views in one week and led to a publishing deal with Simon and Schuster US. The Little Book of Sloth was released in 2013, and went into the New York Times Bestseller list, selling over 50,000 copies during the first three months of publication.
Franklin Watts will publish The Power of Sloth in Spring 2014.
