Australian publisher Allen & Unwin is marking its fourth consecutive year as publisher of the year, after winning the prize at the Australian Book Industry Awards (AIBA).
It is the twelfth time in 22 years that the publisher has been given the accolade, handed out at an awards ceremony in Sydney last month. The awards are judged by an academy of Australian booksellers.
Allen & Unwin also picked up several other prizes, with Kate Morton’s novel The Secret Keeper winning general fiction book of the year, becoming her fourth novel to win the award. Allen & Unwin also won promotional campaign of the year for the sales and marketing effort behind the book.
Robert Gorman, c.e.o. of Allen & Unwin, said: “We are always proud to win Publisher of the Year as it is a great recognition of the incredible talent and amazing energy that everyone at Allen & Unwin brings to their work. I congratulate everyone involved in the publishing of The Secret Keeper for all they’ve contributed to make the book such an international success.”
Allen & Unwin represents a number of UK-based publishers, including members of the Independent Alliance such as Atlantic Books, Faber, Canongate, Granta, Icon and Profile, as well as Bloomsbury, Nicholas Brealey and Nosy Crow.
The ABIA were held as part of the 2013 Sydney Writers’ Festival.
