Editors from Simon & Schuster, Atlantic, Random House and Meadowside Children's Books have made it onto the shortlist for the 2011 Kim Scott Walwyn Prize.
The award recently refocused its criteria, teaming up with the Society of Young Publishers (SYP) to recognise promise among women in the industry who have worked in publishing in the UK for up to seven years.
The four-strong list, announced at today's London Book Fair, comprises Lucy Cuthew, Meadowside Children's Books commissioning editor; Jessica Leeke, S&S UK fiction editor; Sarah Norman, Atlantic Books senior editor; and Kay Peddle, assistant editor at The Bodley Head, Vintage Publishing, Random House.
Committee chair Kate Jury said: "We are really pleased to be announcing such a strong shortlist today. The candidates have come from different backgrounds and areas of publishing, and bring many strengths to the table . . .
"These candidates embody many of the types of skill and potential that we hope to encourage and recognize through the relaunch and new focus of the Kim Scott Walwyn Prize"
The winner will be announced on 5th May. Helen Fraser, former Penguin UK m.d., will deliver the keynote speech.
This year's winner will receive £1,000 sponsored by SYP as well as a one-day course courtesy of the Publishing Training Centre (PTC).
The Prize was founded in honour of Kim Scott Walwyn, a publishing director at Oxford University Press, who died in 2002 at the age of 45.
