Titles by actor Simon Callow and composer Stephen Sondheim have made the shortlist for this year's Sheridan Morley Prize for Theatre Biography.
The £2,000 prize is awarded annually for the best biography, autobiography or diary of a theatrical or showbusiness subject.
Callow's My Life in Pieces will battle fellow Nick Hern Books author Mike Bradwell's The Reluctant Escapologist for the prize, alongside Finishing the Hat by Stephen Sondheim (Ebury), Putting it On by Michael Codron and Alan Strachan (Duckworth) and Born Brilliant—The Life of Kenneth Williams by Christopher Stevens (John Murray)
The judging panel this year is chaired by critic, broadcaster and biographer Ruth Leon, and also comprises stage director Sir Richard Eyre, actress Siân Phillips CBE and Evening Standard editor Geordie Greig.
The winner will be announced on 22nd February.
