Field of Dreams author to Friday Project
19.06.12 | Roger Tagholm
HarperCollins imprint The Friday Project is to publish a new novel by W P Kinsella, author of Shoeless Joe, the novel famously filmed as "Field of Dreams".
The Canadian author will return to his trademark combination of baseball and magic realism in Butterfly Winter, a novel about sporting star twins Julio and Estaban Pimental, to be published as a paperback original next year.
The publisher has also acquired Kinsella’s backlist, including Shoeless Joe, which it will issue in spring 2013, with eight further titles to follow in 2014. All the titles will be made available as e-books for the first time.
Friday Project Publisher Scott Pack said: “I have been a fan of Kinsella’s work ever since I first read Shoeless Joe. Remarkably, this is his only book to have been published in the UK... His novels and short stories have long been acclaimed on the other side of the Atlantic and it is about time readers over here got the chance to discover and enjoy his books.”
Following a car accident in 1997, Kinsella, who is 77, almost stopped writing fiction altogether, concentrating on literary journalism instead. Butterfly Winter has been hailed as a return to form, but the author has said it will be his last novel.
