A Twitter account impersonating author John le Carré has been suspended after publishing a malicious tweet claiming J K Rowling had died.
Le Carré's agent Jonny Geller of Curtis Brown (pictured) alerted Twitter to the account, @JLeCarre, which claimed to be the "official" account of the novelist and had amassed 2,500 followers.
The tweet concerning Rowling had been retweeted over 80 times.
Geller told The Bookseller: "It's not pleasant. There have been a few fake Twitter accounts out there, and it's one thing being a parody, with jokes - but it's another thing when someone is saying pretty hideous things. We do take this seriously."
