Faber has signed "So You Think You Can Dance?" judge Arlene Phillips for a new children's fiction series.
Julia Heydon-Wells, publishing director children's fiction, bought world all-language rights in Alana Dancing Star, aimed at 7+ readers for an undisclosed sum from agent Paul Stevens at Independent Talent.
The series will launch in October 2010 with the first two titles, Samba Spectacular and L A Moves, followed by a further two titles in January 2011 and a futher two in May 2011.
The series follows a young girl, Alana, who is "mad about dancing". Each book will centre around a brand new dance, from foxtrot to tango. When she discovers Madmoiselle Coco's mysterious costume shop things take a "wonderful magical twist".
"I am thrilled that Arlene has chosen Faber," said Heydon-Wells. "I have been very struck by her immense passion for dance—and this passion will filter through to every page of her children's books."
Phillips said, "As a child I was an avid reader of any book about dance. For children who love an adventure, they will be able to join Alana and her friends follow their dancing dreams."
A choreographer and director, Phillips was a judge on BBC1's "Strictly Come Dancing" and last year was appointed the government's "dance champion".
