Faber gets Glimpse of dystopia
01.01.70 | Katie Allen
Faber has acquired a YA novel, The Glimpse, by debut author Claire Merle.
Children's books acting publishing director Susila Baybars bought world rights in all languages in a two-book deal through Jo Williamson at Anthony Harwood Agency.
Faber will publish The Glimpse in June 2012, with the plot based in a near-future dystopia, with England divided into Pures and Crazies according to the results of a DNA test. The novel follows Ana as she discovers that she has been living the privileged life of a Pure due to an error in her test, and her struggle to reunite with her betrothed, Pure-boy Jasper Taurell, after he disappears.
Baybars said: "I found The Glimpse irresistible—it's the perfect combination of page-turning thriller and heart-rending love story . . . Claire Merle is bursting with ideas and extremely dedicated - we're thrilled to welcome her to the Faber children's list."
