Faber has snapped up a new graphic novel from Gilbert Hernandez, one of the creators of the seminal Love and Rockets series.
Angus Cargill at Faber has signed UK and Commonwealth rights to Marble Season from Samantha Haywood at Transatlantic Literary Agency.
Hernandez created Love and Rockets with his brothers Jamie and Mario, a long–running series involving several different stories, often focusing on Mexican-American characters.
Marble Season, which will be published by Drawn & Quarterly in the US, follows the untold story of his youth in 1960s suburban California, and is saturated with pop-culture references to the music, film and comics of the time.
The book will be published in May 2013. Cargill said it is “a gorgeous and unexpected treat from a total master of the form. It’s a real thrill to get him on the list alongside people such as Adrian Tomine and Craig Thompson, and we can’t wait to publish.”
