A new independent bookshop, Rossiter Books, opened its doors for the first time on Friday 9th April. Rossiter Books in Ross on Wye, Herefordshire, sells a range of new books and some stationery, and is aiming to offer "a vibrant events schedule". The shop is run by husband and wife Andy, an ex-Waterstone's manager, and Victoria Rossiter.
Andy Rossiter said: "It's been a good start. We've been open for two weeks and we're getting a lot of feedback saying this is what people have been crying out for."
The couple had been thinking about opening an independent bookshop for years, and after the collapse of Borders were able to buy fixtures and fittings from the relatively new Cardiff branch.
Andy Rossiter's first position at Waterstone's was at the Bath Milsom Street Store in October 1988. He held various positions over the years including manager of Manchester Deansgate, leaving Waterstone's in 2002 to manage a Debenhams store, but returned to bookselling in 2004, running Ottakar's branches in Coventry and Portsmouth. Rossiter then managed Waterstone's Cardiff from April 2008 to December 2009.
After working in chain bookselling for so long Rossiter said: "It feels good to be working for yourself and being able to buy for your local market."
Victoria Rossiter is a history teacher and will be using her children's book knowledge to run the children's department.
