Evening Standard launches reading campaign
07.06.11 | Bookseller Staff
The London Evening Standard has launched a Get London Reading campaign in association with charity Volunteer Reading Help to tackle the capital's illiteracy problems.
VRH helps adults mentor schoolchildren struggling with reading and writing, and the Standard's appeal aims to fundraise in support of the charity and to encourage volunteers to come forward.
The campaign comes hard on the heels of controversial reports in both the Standard and the Daily Mail that one in three households do not contain books.
The Standard's Dispossessed campaign raised £7.2m for groups tackling poverty last year.
