EU 'to accept proposal on e-book price settlement'

EU regulators will next month accept an offer by Apple and four publishers to end the antitrust probe into e-book prices, according to a Reuters report.

The news agency claimed that the EC has not asked for further concessions after getting feedback from rivals and consumers about the proposal.

Apple, Simon & Schuster, HarperCollins, Hachette Livre and Holtzbrinck are said to have made a proposal in September which would see them letting retailers set their own prices or discounts for a period of two years, with "most-favoured nation" contracts suspended for five.

However Penguin did not take part in the offer.
