An English poet has been shortlisted to become a member of France's Académie Française, the body that rules on the use of the French language.
If Michael Edwards were to be selected, he would become the first Englishman to sit among the 40 members of the assembly known as the "immortals", according to the BBC.
The vote, to fill two of six vacancies, is due to take place on Thursday (14th February).
The "immortals" are elected by members of the academy for their contributions to the French language.
There are currently six vacancies to be filled at the academy following a spate of deaths amongst the so-called "immortals" - the youngest member currently being 60.
