Science and technology publisher Elsevier has acquired “the publishing assets” of William Andrew, following an 18-month period in which the two companies forged “a valuable strategic alliance”.
The acquisition means Elsevier now has control of the print distribution of William Andrew books globally outside of North America, and electronic distribution of William Andrew content on Elsevier’s electronic publishing platforms Science Direct and Engineering Village.
Jim Donohue, m.d. of science and technology books, said the move was “the logical next step” for both companies.
“This acquisition adds to our portfolio the strength and depth of William Andrew’s data and reference content,” he added. “We look forward to accelerating the growth of the William Andrew list both online and in print as part of our overall strategic goal of providing engineers and applied scientists with the critical information, intelligence and tools they need to do their jobs.”
Bill Woishnis, who founded William Andrew in 1990, said the acquisition would allow the smaller publisher to “reach a much larger audience in the future and be associated with the leader in scientific publishing.”
The company specialises in books in fields such as plastics & rubbers, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, nanotechnology, energy and animal science.
