Electronic gift cards to launch in Ireland this week

National Book Tokens will launch the Euro Gift Card in the Republic of Ireland for the first time this Friday (1st July).

The Euro Gift Card is being introduced by NBT after  “a great deal of interest” in the system following its launch in the UK last year. The release of the card will be supported by press advertising.

Alex de Berry, m.d of National Book Tokens, said: “Since the launch of electronic gift cards in the UK, we’ve had a positive response from booksellers using them and consumers buying them.

“There has been a great deal of interest from Irish booksellers in a Euro version of the format so we’re really pleased to be able to launch the gift cards to the Irish market now. We’ll be supporting the roll-out with promotional activity in Ireland over the next few weeks.”

The new gift card range includes designs by children’s illustrators Niamh Sharkey and Oliver Jeffers, following requests by a panel of Irish booksellers.

Retailers are also receiving point of sale material this week to support the launch, with Eason and Waterstone’s being among the Irish booksellers signed up to use the new Euro Gift Card.

National Book Tokens has a retail sales volume of £23 million each year.
