Eight more publishers join CourseSmart
14.09.12 | Lisa Campbell
Eight new publishers have joined CourseSmart's European e-book rental platform as the company gears up for a launch through academic bookseller Blackwell's.
Sage, Taylor & Francis, Edinburgh University Press, Jessica Kingsley, Gill & Macmillan, CAB International, Goodfellow Publishing and W W Norton have signed up to make their textbooks available to rent. Up until now, only CourseSmart's founding publishers - Cengage, McGraw-Hill, Macmillan, Pearson and Wiley - had titles on the service. The total catalogue of e-textbooks now available is over 4,000.
CourseSmart m.d. Fionnuala Duggan said the company hoped to work with "as many publishers as possible" in order to offer students a wider variety of texts to choose from. "We are constantly adding relevant new content from publishers to build on the wide range of titles already available to both lecturers via our digital sampling platform and students via the website," she said.
Clive Parry, global marketing director for Sage, said the publisher had decided to join the device-agnostic platform as part of its commitment to review and develop products which will be helpful for students as the digital age progresses. "The way students discover, read and access information is evolving and we are seeing a growing demand for access at the click of a button," Parry said. "Sage was founded with the belief that education is intrinsically valuable and we are committed to reviewing and developing products that effectively support teaching and learning."
