Eight chosen for Luke Bitmead shortlist
31.10.11 | Charlotte Williams
Legend Press has announced the eight-strong shortlist for the 2011 Luke Bitmead Bursary, with the £2,500 prize to be awarded on 1st December.
The shortlisted novels, all unpublished, are: Sleeping Patterns by Jamie Crook; The River House by Joanna Gokce; One Day I Had a Hiccup by Mike Griffiths; The Pick Up Artist by Chris Hill; Four Left Feet by Sue Jackson; The Yoga Sutras by Steve Morris; Stolen by Rebecca Muddiman; and The House by the Sea by Juliet Young.
The prize looks to support the work of unpublished authors, with the winner to be published by Legend. It is held in the memory of Luke Bitmead, author of White Summer, the first novel published by Legend Press, who died at the age of 34 in 2006.
Managing director Tom Chalmers said: "It is fantastic to be working with Luke's family on the bursary, which is growing year-on-year. Luke would have loved the idea of another struggling talented writer being supported on the difficult path to securing their first publishing deal."
