Veteran Irish novelist Edna O’Brien is to be honoured at this year's Irish Book Awards with the Bob Hughes Lifetime Achievement Award. O'Brien is the author of 14 novels and five collections of short stories. The Irish Book Awards 2009 are taking place next Wednesday, 6th May.
O’Brien will be presented with the Bob Hughes Lifetime Achievement Award in the presence of a host of renowned Irish authors representing the very best of Irish popular fiction, crime, sport, children’s and non-fiction genres. The Lifetime Achievement Award is named in honour of Bob Hughes, the founder of the Hughes bookselling chain.
Speaking in advance of the Irish Book Awards ceremony next week O'Brien said: "I am delighted to receive this award and would like to thank those who have made it possible. Though it states 'lifetime', I am not yet ready to quit."
