Edinburgh Book Festival to publish story collection
31.08.11 | Katie Allen
The Edinburgh International Book Festival, Scottish indie Cargo and US publisher McSweeney's are to team up on a four-volume collection of stories from authors including Roddy Doyle and Ali Smith.
Fifty authors are to take part in the project, entitled Elsewhere, providing stories commissioned by the festival over the past 12 months. Cargo will be the main publisher with McSweeney's to contribute the design. Authors Michael Morpurgo, Alan Warner, Jackie Kay and Michel Faber are also to take part.
Cargo m.d. Mark Buckland said: "We’re absolutely delighted to be working with McSweeney’s, a like-minded publisher that we really admire, and the Edinburgh International Book Festival, in my opinion, the best book festival there is. We’ve prided ourselves on being radical and innovating in literature and we’ve got many special things planned for this.”
Elsewhere will be funded by the festival with assistance and support from Creative Scotland and Scottish Government Edinburgh Festivals EXPO fund. It is scheduled for release in August 2012. A special guest author will write the introduction, to be announced later this year.
