BBC Books will publish an "EastEnders" annual in October 2008, the first to accompany the popular BBC1 soap.
To be published on 16th October (h/b, £12.99), the annual is based in the fictional borough of Walford, taking a "sparky, gossip-magazine-style" approach. The publisher is hoping for behind-the-scenes access and promises some "big surprises".
"EastEnders" attracts around 10 million viewers, four times a week, and last year’s Christmas episode was the most watched programme of the year, with more than 14 million viewers tuning in.
BBC Books editorial director Lorna Russell, who also bought the "Strictly Come Dancing Annual", said: "We are really looking forward to working with the ‘EastEnders’ team to create a book the fans will find irresistible. Our aim is to see the Annual become as much a part of Christmas as a Queen Vic knees-up."
