Irish book chain Eason has made 40 positions redundant in a move that it said was aimed at increasing efficiencies. A spokesperson for the company said that the redundancies had been made across all sections of the retailer's business.
She said: "As part of ongoing efforts to refine business operations and functions in order to create greater efficiencies, Eason & Son can confirm 40 members of staff will cease to be employed by the company.
"This small reduction in staff numbers was achieved through a combination of early retirement, voluntary and compulsory redundancy."
The Irish book chain employs 1,800 full time equivalent staff in the Republic of Ireland and United Kingdom. It also owns the UK chain British Bookshops.
