Jennifer Worth's memoir of midwifery is to come to the small screen, as the BBC announces its latest dramas.
Call the Midwife, published by Weidenfeld, follows a young midwife in the East End of London during the 1950s. The title is to be filmed as a series of six hour-long episodes.
The broadcaster is also due to celebrate Dickens' bicentenary with a three-part adaptation of the novelist's Great Expectations, due for broadcast on BBC One next Christmas.
