Davies made chair of Literature Wales
17.07.12 | Charlotte Williams
Professor Damian Walford Davies has been appointed chair of Literature Wales, following the retirement of previous co-chairs Dr Harri Pritchard Jones and Dr John Pikoulis.
Davies, head of department of English and creative writing at Aberystwyth University, will be joined by new board members: poet and entrepreneur William Ayot; journalist and broadcaster Catrin Gerallt; Bethan Hughes, librarian and promoter of reading; presenter and producer Angharad Mair; writer and critic Sioned Williams; and writer and freelance consultant Angharad Wynne.
Davies said: "My aim as chair is to help give the radical energies of our two literatures [Welsh and English] the place they deserve in contemporary debates, so that writing becomes not the pleasure of the few, but an instrument of change and transformation for us all."
Literature Wales was formed in April 2011, and works for the Arts Council to develop and implement literature activity.
