CUP is to explore Shakespeare's relationship to the book trade and how his bookselling contemporaries championed his work—hand-selling, 16th-century style.
Shakespeare and the Book Trade by Lukas Erne will be released as a £27.99 hardback in April. The book examines how Shakespeare's plays were published and distributed, as well as how his plays were received as printed objects in his own time.
Erne argues that the popularity of his plays within the book trade has been greatly underestimated, and that it wasn't just through the live performance of his plays that news of his work spread.
