Cumberbatch to read Snowman sequel audio
19.11.12 | Joshua Farrington
Benedict Cumberbatch will read the digital audiobook of the sequel to Raymond Briggs' classic children’s tale, The Snowman.
Channel 4 has developed a new short film as a sequel to the much-loved Christmas cartoon, which is due to air on 24th December, following the original.
However, according to a Guardian report, 78-year-old Briggs has said he is too busy with other projects to create a companion book for the new film, called The Snowman and the Snowdog.
In its place, Puffin will be releasing an e-audiobook in late December aimed at three to five-year-olds, narrated by actor Benedict Cumberbatch, famous for his role in BBC1’s "Sherlock", and featuring images from the film.
Briggs’ The Snowman was first published by Hamish Hamilton in 1978, and was turned into an animated film in 1982, first airing on Boxing Day. The short film was nominated for an Academy Award, while the song "Walking in the Air" composed by Howard Blake went on to become a chart hit.
The sequel has been produced to mark the film’s 30th anniversary, with many of the same creative team working on it and using the original animation techniques.
