Council shuts New Cross library 24 hours early

New Cross library remained closed on its scheduled final day of opening, Saturday 28th May, because of council fears that protestors would occupy the building.

A council notice fixed to the shutters told library users: "We considered the potential for damage to books and property and decided to close the library one day earlier", saying: "If you wish to return your books, please take them to any other Lewisham library."

The note added: "The council is now working with local organisations to make community library services available in New Cross as soon as possible."

But angry residents posted their own responses, commenting: "Do you want me to study in McDonalds?" and "You're the vandals, not us."

Gutless.

What can you say in the face of such abuse of pwer?
Where are you Mr. Vaizey, Mr. Hunt, Mr.Cameron,Mr. Clegg, Mr. Pickles?
How many of you are styled The Right Honourable?

Where are the MPs? Joan Ruddock? Are you out there? Will you appear in public again?
And what about the Mayor of Lewisham, one man, one vote and he has it!
Has he read the Standard this evening? Well, Mr. Mayor what an achievement, my part in London's children's illiteracy. what an accolade, what an epitaph!
