Comma sells Blasim tales to Penguin US
01.01.70 | Benedicte Page
Manchester-based independent Comma Press has sold short story collection The Corpse Exhibition by Iraq war refugee Hassan Blasim to John Siciliano at Penguin US.
The deal is for a collection of stories that comprises both Blasim's first collection, Madman of Freedom Square, about the Iraq war from an Iraqi's perspective, and his forthcoming one The Iraqi Christ, which Comma will publish in the UK in December.
Hassan, whose work has been banned in Jordan, has twice won the English PEN Writers in Translation award and also been longlisted for the Independent Foreign Fiction prize.
Comma founder Ra Page called the Penguin US buy "a great vote of confidence in Comma's investment in both the short story and literature in translation".
