The only account of an England player's World Cup has been delayed by more than a year, the publisher has confirmed.
Simon & Schuster has pushed back publication of the memoir by former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole, saying the deadline for publication in time for this year's Christmas trading period had been missed.
The book had originally been scheduled for release on 19th August, with the publisher promising it would feature Cole's story of England's recent calamitous World Cup campaign. In the immediate aftermath of the World Cup, Cole was without a club after leaving Chelsea once his contract expired.
Mike Jones, editorial director for non-fiction, said: "He was very disappointed by the World Cup and also our delivery date for making the publication work for this Christmas and be able to get production together was two weeks ago.
"He really didn't want the book to end on a down note, both because of the solid disappointment of the World Cup and also not knowing at that point which club he was going to play for."
Cole has since signed for Liverpool on a free transfer, completing his move on Monday. Jones said the book would go ahead, and be published next autumn.
He said: "Joe will still cover the World Cup campaign and also his first season at his new club Liverpool."
Cole began his career at West Ham before moving to Chelsea in a £6.6m deal, where he won three Premiership titles and three FA Cup winner's medals.
