Closing date for library conference

Today (31st October) is the closing date for booking a place at the Speak Up for Libraries event on 10th November.

The London-based conference will be held by a coalition of campaigners dedicated to protecting libraries and library staff. After lobbying Parliament in May, the conference will be the first large event staged by the group, and is open to all interested in the future of library resources in the UK.

There will be a series of workshops and talks throughout the day, with an introductory talk from Phil Bradley, the president of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, and a “state of the nation” address from library campaigner Alan Gibbons. Guest speakers include authors Philip Ardagh and Bali Rai.

Lunch and refreshments are included at the event which runs from 10am to 4.30pm at the CILIP offices in central London, and the cost of the day is £20.

As publicity has been a little late, and there's currently a flurry of
panic-stricken enquiries, we are holding open a few more places for a
few more days - til Monday 4th November. First come, first served. We
are only just covering cost, so money needed in advance!

I've just dealt with a load of last minute bookings and enquiries by phone and email!

CILIP have kindly cut things fine by allowing us to submit final numbers by Monday 5th November, cutting short their time time to order catering and organise the space and resources needed, in order to accommodate as many as possible.

The fee to attend has been kept to a minimum, to just cover costs, so we have no room for alter numbers at the last minute or to take bookings on the door.

We have decided to take more bookings as there seems to be a real demand but we must stress that we need the firm bookings ASAP and we cannot reserve places without payment.

Please get bookings in the post as places are filling up fast. Whilst we can extend the deadline I will need the form and payment by Saturday, 3 Nov, to collate the details to hand on to CILIP on Monday 5th.
