Choc Lit makes Dangerous Decision
21.11.12 | Katie Allen
Indie publisher Choc Lit has acquired a tale of "dark obsession" by RNA New Writers-winner Margaret Kaine, also winning its own recognition as Publisher of the Year.
It is the first deal Choc Lit has done via an agent for an established author, as the publisher usually signs direct. Choc Lit director Lyn Vernham bought world English language rights in Dangerous Decisions from Helenka Fuglewicz at Edwards Fuglewicz.
The novel tells the story of young beauty Helena Standish, known as the "cream of Staffordshire", who is presented at Court in 1905. She catches the attention of rich, ambitious Oliver Faraday and is "consumed by a dark obsession".
Kaine, who won the RNA award in 2002 for Ring of Clay (Hodder), said: "I'm delighted to be joining Choc Lit, and am looking forward to working with such an imaginative and successful team."
Dangerous Decisions will be published in December 2013.
Meanwhile, Choc Lit has won Publisher of the Year at the Festival of Romance, while author Christina Courtenay took home the prize for Best Historical Read for The Silent Touch of Shadows.
Vernham said: "We’ve had a remarkable year at the medals table. Our aim is to keep producing more quality fiction with romance at the core. We have an exciting list for 2013 with a number of new voices and some surprises from authors our readers already know.”
