Chinese authorities have started investigating Amazon’s methods of selling e-books in the country just a day after it opened the Chinese Kindle Store.
According to a report on ZDnet, the General Administration of Press and Publication of China (GAPP) began investigations last Friday (14th December) to determine whether Amazon had violated regulations in selling e-books by partnering with Chineseall.com.
The GAPP is now investigating Chineseall.com’s e-book sales license. On the Kindle Store homepage, Amazon says: “Chineseall.com is providing operation support for the Kindle Store", which the news site interpreted to mean the U.S. company was using its Chinese partner's license to operate.
ZDnet reported that Wang Qiang, director of digital publishing at GAPP’s technology and digital publishing division as saying Amazon had applied for a business licence for its Kindle Store in China, but it had not yet been approved.
