Authors including Lee Child and Joanne Harris reveal what motivates them to write and provide advice for aspiring writers in a new title from Contact Publishing.
Writers in Black & White: Contemporary Authors Discuss the Writing Life includes interviews with more than 30 authors, conducted by budding writers Alanna Lynott and Solange Berchemin, alongside monochrome photographs.
Writers featured include Faber author Hanif Kureishi, British novelist Esther Freud and Whitbread Prize-winning Jim Crace.
Editor and photographer Anne Mortensen said: "The most important group this book is intended for is the would-be or aspiring writers. They will not only get tips and hints on the writing process from the professionals, but also inspiration if they ever feel disheartened by rejection letters."
Mortensen said established writers and anyone connected to the publishing industry will find the book an interesting read. "Some of the interviewed writers hint at their concerns of where the publishing industry is headed, and some also talk about editors and the role of the various aspects of the people involved in publishing," she said.
Writers in Black & White will be published on 1st November by Contact Publishing as a £15.99 hardback.
