Chatto to publish Mort's first collection
31.08.11 | Charlotte Williams
Chatto & Windus has acquired a debut collection by poet Helen Mort, with plans to publish Division Street in 2013.
Assistant editor Parisa Ebrahimi acquired world rights, all languages, in a deal made directly with the author.
Ebrahimi said: "Helen Mort is one of the most promising poets of her generation. Hers is a wonderfully distinct and assured voice, and the poems are taut and punchy, yet capable of moments of astonishing tenderness, as well as being superbly musical and accessible.
"We're thrilled to be welcoming such a gifted young poet to the Chatto list."
Mort won the Foyle Young Poets of the Year award five times between 1997 and 2004, and also received an Eric Gregory Award in 2007 and won the Manchester Young Writer prize in 2008. She has published two pamphlets with Tall-Lighthouse Press.
