Bloomsbury executive director Richard Charkin and Faber's former managing director Toby Faber have joined the board of the Liverpool University Press. Former Wiley-Blackwell managing director Sue Corbett is stepping down from the board after seven years.
Charkin’s appointment to the academic publishers coincides with the switch to a part-time role as executive director of Bloomsbury. He was formerly c.e.o of Macmillan and of Reed International Books, m.d. of the Academic and General Division at Oxford University Press, non-executive director at Melbourne University Publishing, and president of both the UK Publishers Association (PA) and the International Publishers Association (IPA).
An author and former Faber m.d., Toby Faber has been a trustee of Yale University Press (UK) for 17 years. He is chairman of Faber Music and, as a former vice chairman of the Authors Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS), is currently an ALCS-nominated non-executive director of the Copyright Licensing Agency.
Professor Fiona Beveridge, chair of the board of Liverpool University Press, commented said: “Richard and Toby will bring vast experience and industry knowledge to the board of LUP as the Press continues to grow under the leadership of Anthony Cond. I would also like to say a very big thank you to Corbett who is stepping down from the board and has provided consistently wise counsel over the past seven years.”
Liverpool University Press won both The Bookseller and IPG awards for academic publisher of the year in 2015.
