Century editorial assistant Francesca Pathak has bought world volume rights to a "funny book about feminism" by comedian Bridget Christie for publication in spring 2015. The deal was struck with Vivienne Clore at The Richard Stone Partnership.
Christie has written and performed seven solo Edinburgh Festival shows and is a regular on TV and radio panel shows and comedy programmes, while her series on feminism, "Bridget Christie Minds the Gap" was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 earlier this year.
The book is described as "full of personal anecdotes which branch out to give a very funny take on the state of modern feminism today", as well as covering a multitude of topics from Mary Wollstonecraft to the Daily Sport.
Century publishing director Ben Dunn said: "We are delighted to welcome rising star, Bridget Christie, to the Century list. Her unique take on feminism skillfully highlights inequality issues in society today, whilst remaining incredibly fresh and funny throughout."
Bridget Christie promised :"'As a stand-up comedian and a feminist, I am thrilled, honoured and privileged to be given the opportunity to write a funny book about feminism. As it's a book, I will be focusing mainly on the material, rather than the performance. I will also be using lots of strange fonts, emoticons and exclamation marks to highlight important issues, rather than words, which I feel are a bit overused in books."
