Carlisle to judge William Hill Sports Book award

 “Britain’s Brainiest Footballer” is to join the judging panel of the William Hill Sports Book of the Year award.

Clarke Carlisle, who was given the title on an ITV show in 2002, is a former player for Blackpool, Queen’s Park Rangers, Leeds United, Watford and Burnley as well as appearing as a pundit for Sky Sports and on “Question Time”.

William Hill spokesman and co-founder of the prize, Graham Sharpe, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Clarke to the judging panel. He is the first still active sports person to join and will bring a fresh perspective to the panel’s discussions and deliberations."

Carlisle will join broadcaster and writer John Inverdale;  journalist Hugh McIlvanney; broadcaster Danny Kelly; and Times writer and author, Alyson Rudd.

This year’s winner will be announced on 26th November. As well as a £24,000 cheque, the winning author will also receive a free £2,000 bet, a hand-bound copy of the winning title and a day at the races.
