Carey honoured by Queen
12.06.12 | Bookseller Staff
Novelist Peter Carey has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the Queen's Birthday Honours, according to reports.
The twice-Man-Booker-Prize winning author, published by Faber in the UK, has been appointed the honour for distinguished service to literature, as well as for "promoting the Australian identity internationally and for his work as a teacher and a mentor to other writers", according to an Australian news site.
Carey won the Miles Franklin Award in 1981 for his novel Bliss, and won the Man Booker in 1988 for Oscar and Lucinda, and again in 2001 for True History of the Kelly Gang.
The full list of the Queen's Birthday Honours 2012 will be released on Friday.
