Canelo has acquired three original novels in a new series by author A L Michael.
Canelo has acquired world English language rights for all three novels in Michael's new The Martini Club series. She has previously published eight contemporay women's fiction novels with HarperCollins.
Cocktails and Dreams, the first novel in the series, will be published in July 2017. It tells the story of Savannah, a twenty-something bartender at The Martini Club whose DJ boyfriend dumps her when he finally hits the big time. The breakup coincides with the return of Savannah’s mother – the illustrious singer Persephone Black – 20 years after she was abandoned by her. As Savannah is forced to confront her past, she must also decide whether to take a gamble on her future.
The next two books in The Martini Club series, titled Prosecco and Promises and Martinis and Memories, will publish in 2018 and focus on other characters featured in Cocktails and Dreams.
Michael said: "I'm so excited to be releasing my new book with Canelo, which has already brought such vibrancy and enthusiasm to the process. Cocktails and Dreams is about rediscovering the joy to be found in creativity, and I have rediscovered the joy of writing in the process. I'm really excited to see where The Martini Club series can go!"
Louise Cullen, editorial director at Canelo, added: "A L Michael has the ability to create relatable, true-to-life characters whom readers will take to their hearts. As Savannah learned to take chances in life and love I became swept up in her burgeoning desire to be bold while not being sure how to embrace the changes forced upon her. The wider cast of characters are endearing and hilarious and I’m looking forward to spending more time with them in the rest of the series. A L Michael is one of the smartest new voices in contemporary women’s fiction and I’m incredibly proud to have her on the Canelo list."
Michael has previously published eight contemporary women’s fiction novels with HarperCollins. Her most recent series The House on Camden Square includes Goodbye Ruby Tuesday (Carina), Nice Day for a White Wedding (Carina) and Be My Baby (HQ Digital).
