Actor Simon Callow has donated 1,000 of his own books to the Westminster Reference Library. Most of the books are specialist performing arts titles.
Callow told the BBC: "I can't conceive of a life without libraries", saying he had grown up alongside the Streatham public library and had been a fan even before he could read.
He added that his gesture of support for the Westminster library meant the books would have a very suitable home, "right in the heart of the West End and the theatre community".
