HarperCollins has secured a “lavishly illustrated” companion book to the BBC1 TV series, “Call the Midwife”, having acquired world rights in a two-book deal.
Collins publishing director Iain MacGregor and Collins publisher Hannah MacDonald bought world rights, all languages, in a deal with Pippa Harris at Neal Street Productions, through agent Annabel Merullo at PFD.
The first book, which will take readers behind the scenes on the show and give more background on the 1950s, when the series is set, will be published in November 2012, and will be written by series scriptwriter Heidi Thomas.
