Independent publisher Caffeine Nights has signed a first look deal with Richwater Films, which will see the publisher produce paperback tie-ins of Richwater films, while Richwater will get the first option on film rights for Caffeine Nights books.
The deal was negotiated by Richwater c.e.o. Jonathan Sothcott and Caffeine Nights founder Darren Laws. The first titles announced as part of the deal is a paperback and e-book version of Richwater's forthcoming film "Vendetta", adapted by crime writer Nick Oldham from a screenplay by Stephen Reynolds. There will also be a new movie tie-in edition of Dougie Brimson's cult novel Top Dog, published to coincide by the film version's release by Universal in 2014.
Laws said: "British film is undergoing a digital revolution similar to publishing and Jonathan and Richwater are at the forefront of some of the most exciting film making in the UK today. It's an incredible time to be working in both industries and the association with Richwater Films provides Caffeine Nights with access to some great titles."
Nick Oldham's Vendetta will be published by Caffeine Nights in October 2013. The book will contain a selection of stills from the film.
Sothcott said: "Opportunities of this nature allow me to grow Richwater into a business that is more than just a film production company and the material that Darren has acquired is a natural fit for our remit - high concept thrillers with an edge… There is a great deal of synergy here."
