Somerset-based printer Butler Tanner & Dennis Ltd has entered administration due to “continued trading losses and prevailing market conditions”, with the possible loss of its 100 staff jobs.
The firm’s c.e.o. Gerald White said this week that the company, based in Somerset, would explore “all possible ways to avoid compulsory redundancies and to minimise the number of employees affected”.
Butler Tanner & Dennis Ltd is a subsidiary of Butler Tanner & Dennis Holdings Ltd, and prints and binds colour books and brochures.
It specialises in colour books, Fine Art printed projects, high-end magazines and more.
The business was rescued from liquidation in 2008 by Felix Dennis, who owns the company with White.
The lease on Butler Tanner & Dennis’ Frome site comes to an end in September this year, and the search for another location has “provided an economically viable alternative to the Frome site”.
Its parent company also owns Butler Tanner and Dennis Maps Ltd and Berforts Information Press Ltd, both of which are not part of the administration process.
White said: “After spending months considering the future of the business, various lease options for our existing site and searching for alternative appropriate premises from which to print, we have unfortunately been left with no option but to put Butler Tanner and Dennis Ltd into Administration.
“We very much regret the impact this will have on our loyal staff and customers and the community of Frome.
“The maps operation will continue to trade while the directors consider the future of that business including where the operation can be sited and as a result we hope that some jobs will be preserved.”
The directors of Butler Tanner and Dennis Ltd plan to appoint Richard Rones of Thornton Rones as administrator following court approval.
It is expected that Thornton Rones’ appointment will take effect from 23rd May.
