Burtenshaw steps down at LBF

Alistair Burtenshaw is stepping down from his role as director of books and publishing for Reed Exhibitions—including as director of The London Book Fair—with immediate effect.

In a letter sent to The London Book Fair Advisory Board this morning (14th September), Reed Exhibitions B2B divisional managing director Justin Tadman said Burtenshaw was leaving "to pursue opportunities in the wider creative industries".

Tadman said: "Alistair has led the fair very successfully through challenging times and has ensured that it continually reflects and showcases developments across the publishing sector. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking Alistair very sincerely for the contribution he has made to Reed Exhibitions during his tenure. He leaves The London Book Fair in the hands of a very strong team that he has built over the past few years."

A successor would be announced "soon", Tadman added. Recruitment is understood to have begun for a new LBF director who is unlikely to have the wider Reed Exhibitions director of books and publishing role that Burtenshaw had taken up. 

Burtenshaw commented that it had been "a great honour to have been able to lead The London Book Fair through more than a decade of significant growth and development and to have had the opportunity during the last two years to lead the strategic co-ordination and business development activity for Reed Exhibitions' portfolio of book fairs around the globe."

He added that it had been "a great privilege to work with all the talented individuals past and present" at LBF, Reed Exhibitions and client and partner organisations, and that he would "look back with great fondness at the many successful initiatives that I was fortunate to be able to play a part in".
