The annual search to find the best publishers, retailers, agents, librarians and supply chain professionals has began, as The Bookseller Industry Awards has opened its website for entries.
In total, a record 19 BIA gongs will be given out at the gala awards ceremony at Hilton, Park Lane London on 13th May, plus the Bookseller's Association's annual Gerry Davies award for services to bookselling. This year features two new prizes: The Supply Chain Innovation Award sponsored by BIC and the Independent Academic, Educational and Professional Publisher of the Year.
Information and application procedures can be found here. The deadline for entries in 15th February.
Philip Jones, editor of The Bookseller and chair of the judges, said: "The unchanging aim of the awards is to celebrate publishing, retailing and libraries, to provide a platform to shout about our success. As the book business, in all its many forms, changes it has never been more important to pause and reflect on what we do well."
A combination of The Bookseller's Retail Awards and the old "Trade Nibbies", the BIA is now in its fourth year. Last year's winners included HarperCollins becoming Publisher of the Year, Oxford University Press gaining Academic, Educational and Professional Publisher of the Year and Foyles grabbing both National and Children's Bookseller of the Year. Individual awards included Jonny Geller wining Literary Agent of the Year and Darrell Thrush-Denning of Blackwell's, Edinburgh becoming manager of the Year.
