Bonnier Publishing Group has launched a new adult non-fiction imprint in the UK, Blink Publishing, which will focus on official or endorsed titles that are digitally enhanced.
The company, which has published just a few titles for adults on its Red Lemon non-fiction list, primarily aimed at children, has been “looking to get into adult publishing for some time”, Blink Publishing m.d. Perminder Mann told The Bookseller. Mann said Bonnier also wanted to integrate digital into whatever it launched.
Blink Publishing books will be enhanced, with readers able to download apps which contain additional content, such as videos and photo galleries.
The first titles by Blink Publishing include Ayrton Senna, an official book commemorating the 20th anniversary of Senna’s death. It has the support of Senna’s family and The Ayrton Senna Foundation, and will be released in hardback on 1st May costing £35.
Blink Publishing will also release 100 Things That Caught My Eye, by wildlife presenter Chris Packham, and Oscar’s Brazil, a journey through Brazil told by Brazil and Chelsea footballer Oscar dos Santos Emboaba to journalist Tom Watt. Both will be released in hardback on 5th June, and will cost £20 each.
Mann said that the focus on official and endorsed books would “help people listen to us and take notice”, and that having brands would “grab people’s attention”.
Blink Publishing plans to release 10 books this year, increasing in coming years.
The imprint will be based in Dorking, alongside other Bonnier businesses including Templar Publishing.
As well as m.d. Mann, the staff of Blink Publishing includes Lisa Hoare in the role of commercial director, Clare Tillyer, who joins from John Blake Publishing as acquisitions and rights director, and Karen Browning as head of PR.
Mann said: “We’ve brought a dedicated team together focused on bringing superb quality, digitally enhanced books to the commercial mass market. Blink provides the knowledge and expertise of a large publisher with the personal attention and enthusiasm of a small publisher.”
Bonnier Publishing also owns children's imprints Hot Key Books, Autumn Publishing Group, Piccadilly Press, The Five Mile Press, Weldon Owen and Piccolia in France.
