Bloomsbury buys El Clasico
22.08.11 | Graeme Neill
Bloomsbury has bought a non-fiction title about one of the great footballing rivalries in the modern game, between that of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Sport and Wisden publisher Charlotte Atyeo bought world English rights to El Clasico: Barcelona v Real Madrid, Football’s Greatest Rivalry by Richard Fitzpatrick from Charlie Brotherstone at AM Heath. The book will be published in August 2012.
Atyeo said: "This is the football story that was screaming out to be told, and Richard Fitzpatrick brings its epic nature fully to life with fascinating interviews and historical detail. We are hugely excited about publishing it."
The Barcelona/Real Madrid rivalry is one of the most fraught in football. Last week's Super Cup match between the two sides was marred by a scuffle with Real manager Jose Mourinho poking a finger in the eye of Barcelona assistant coach Tito Vilanova. The game had three red cards.
