The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) has appointed Biddy Fisher as the vice-president for 2009. Fisher will become president in 2010.
For the past 13 years Fisher has been the head of information services at Sheffield Hallam University. In the early '90s she was CILIP's academic libraries adviser and was more recently the chair of CILIP’s Library and Information Research Group, external examiner for its Chartership Board and a Yorkshire and Humberside Branch committee member.
She is currently a member of the IFLA Library Theory and Research Committee, has served on Life Long Learning UK's Library and Archives Panel and has been a member of the Society of College, University and National Libraries (SCONUL) Executive Board.
Fisher said: "Retirement can now wait. I am truly honoured to be asked to join Peter Griffiths in his presidential year as CILIP's vice president, and to be given an opportunity to continue my career-long advocacy of the Library and Information profession."
