Bedford Square Books strikes exclusive Tesco deal
15.02.12 | Katie Allen
Bedford Square Books, the e-book and print-on-demand venture set up by the Ed Victor Literary Agency, has struck an exclusive deal with Tesco to sell its first original work.
Dead Rich by debut novelist Louise Fennell will be published as a mass market edition by Simon and Schuster and sold exclusively by the supermarket for four months from 15th March, priced £7.99.
The deal came about after Tesco category buying manager - books Garry Blackman read about Fennell in the Evening Standard.
Victor said: "Louise Fennell’s novel has been creating a buzz since we announced it at last year’s Frankfurt Book Fair. . . I’m delighted that Tesco has seen the potential for Dead Rich to be a bestseller and for Louise Fennell to become a household name.”
Dead Rich went on sale yesterday (14th February) as a £9.99 POD title and £3.99 e-book. Press coverage so far has included New, Grazia and Woman & Home, with further press lined up for March including Metro and a slot on Sky Arts' "The Book Show".
Victor set up Bedford Square Books in May last year, focusing on out of print titles or those on which the rights had reverted. He said at the time he would consider publishing original works.

Nothing vulgar about this at all. And it certainly won't deter other bookshops from stocking or recommending this author's work, or publishers from working with this agency. Oh no. Definitely not. No way.
